Claire is home sick in bed today, and, in a stunning show of solidarity (albeit somewhat ill-conceived, I grant you), her beloved cat, Urvasi, leaped up on the bed, gathered her inner kitten forces and threw up her entire breakfast on top of Claire. (ugh). Worse, the results of her magnanimous gesture and admittedly impressive efforts badly soiled Claireapos;s beloved and favorite blanket from her childhood, a quilt that is pale yellow on one side and white with yellow rosebuds on the other side. When Claire was old enough to leave her crib and get her very first bed, aa momentous occasion, she and I went shopping for sheets and a quilt for the new bed, to Claireapos;s great excitement. I told her that even though the room she and Matt (already in a bed of his own) shared was painted pale blue and although Mattapos;s quilt was blue and his sheets were patterned in primary colors, she could choose whatever color and pattern she wanted. She chose this yellow rosebud and white quilt and it has been with her since, no matter how the decor and color of her bedroom (at home and in all of her apartments) have changed. When we moved to Austin and she and Matt (age 3 1/2 and almost 5) got their very own bedrooms, she was so excited with her white painted furniture and how pretty her bed looked with her yellow and white rosebud quilt and sheets The quilt went with her to camp, to Hardin House, to her apartments durng her college years and after graduation. It gets softer and softer with every laundering and by now it is a bit worn and somewhat faded, but still warming, comforting and attractive. She absolutely loves it Let us hope this quilt can be salvaged after this most recent disastrous episode
