definition of dialect

Walking from my office back to the car yesterday, some random dude on the street walking the opposite direction saw me from about half a block away and gave me a strange kinda goofy smile. When he got to where I was, he smiled again and said:
"Excuse me, Ijust wanted to say that Ireally like that hat on you. Iwish Icould wear hats like that."

Iwasnapos;t expecting that. "Well, thanks," Ireplied, "Ido like wearing hats."

"Iwish I could wear hats,"he said, "But they always look goofy on me."

Clearly, this was a cry for help. I took a few steps back and looked him over critically, sizing him up.

"Have you ever tried a fedora?" Iinquired.

"A fedora?" he asked, clearly surprised.

"Yes,"Isaid with a nod, "A grey fedora. Dark grey. With a black hat band."

"Really?" he asked, a boyish grin slowly spreading across his face.

"Absolutely. Ithink it would look spectacular"

He looked like he wanted to dance at this news that a hat might look good on him. I suppose heapos;d never considered wearing a fedora before.

"Anyways, that hat looks really great on you,"he said, and then turned to go on his merry way.

Ihope he does go get a fedora - it really would look good on him. Iapos;m going to revolutionize the world, one hat at a time
